I was asked to help organize a reunion of the past 20 years of alumni from Vanderbilt's Ed.D. K-12 and Higher Ed. Educational Leadership and Policy program. I wanted to see where participants were joining us from.

We collected data from registrants on a number of forms. I converted their addresses to a city and state format that is accepted in DataStudio.

We used images from this dashboard to target recruitment towards locations and graduation years that were underrepresented to great success!

One challenge of sharing data is updating it and resharing it. We would meet weekly, review our data, and share it through a listserv.

Mapping data is not bad if you know how the system likes it structured. For Data Studio, cities have to follow the format of City, State Abbreviation. In DataStudio, you have to identify this column of data as that type of geographic data. When you do, the map is easily generated. We changed the colors to match the school's colors.

The Takeaway
Reunions are awesome but a lot of work. We had wonderful guest speakers, research updates, and networking. It was an amazing weekend!
